Crowds of people in Libya stormed the city mayor’s house and set it on fire, in protest at how the country’s authorities dealt with last week’s catastrophic floods.
A video emerged showing protesters at the mayor’s house, throwing various objects, including a mattress, into the flames.
The city’s mayor, Abdel Moneim Al-Ghaithi, runs the eastern city of Derna, which was most affected by the floods that followed the collapse of two dams in the region.
Residents say officials did not receive adequate warning and believe they were aware of heavy rains.
Nearly 4,000 people were killed in the disaster, and more than 10,000 are believed to be missing.
