In mid-July, Jenkins told fans of the series based on the Bible that it was premiering to successfully secure the assignment of the SAG-AFTRA strike, which brought most of the entertainment industry to a halt.
“We meet all qualifications for an exemption,” he wrote in an open note to the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, a labor union representing some 160,000 media professionals around the world. “You have our request for it. Every day that goes by without a response from you costs us hundreds of thousands of dollars while your representatives are stuck in Utah.”
“We’re the good guys. We’ve treated the cast well,” Jenkins added. “Please take a few minutes to approve our request so that your actors can get back to work and get paid for the last two weeks of the season they want to finish.”
Many of the actors on “The Chosen” are members of SAG-AFTRA, including Jonathan Romey, who portrays Jesus on the popular series.
